Quarantine Quarters

Video Tours of Our Domestic Spaces in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Over the past few months, the world has shrunk to the size of our homes. Millions of humans across the planet have gone into quarantine in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. During confinement most of us have changed the way we use many of the physical spaces in our homes. Almost overnight, our private residences have absorbed all sorts of activities that used to happen outside of the home, such as working, attending school, shopping, worshipping with others, exercising, and socializing.

To capture this historic shift in the relationship between public and private space, Sawbuck Productions has launched a new global project, and we need your help to make it happen!

We are striving to compile a video montage that shows how humans across the world have transformed their residential spaces while living in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participation is very simple: If you have been living under quarantine (or "shelter in place," "stay at home orders," "lockdown," etc.), make a short video that documents how you have changed your living space to accommodate the activities that you used to do outside of the home but have been doing in the home during quarantine. Using your smartphone or video camera, give us a 5-minute narrated tour of your reconfigured home spaces!

This is meant to be a kind of “show and tell” video that documents how life in quarantine has led you to use certain spaces in your home in new and different ways (and perhaps to stop using certain spaces in old ways). We also want to know how you FEEL about these changes to the use of space in your home. For each space you document in the video, please include these things in your narration:

(1) Describe how the space has changed (what used to happen there, what happens now);

(2) How your feelings about the space have changed (or not);

(3) Describe any challenges or rewards you experienced as the space underwent its transformation.

Once you have made your video, please go here to upload the video to Sawbuck Productions and answer a few basic questions.

One final request: When making your tour video, please be sure to hold the camera in landscape orientation (not portrait).

The final compilation video will include excerpts from your video and hundreds of others from around the world. Once it's finished, Sawbuck will distribute the finished product to the world, free of charge, just like everything we make.

THIS IS A PAID OPPORTUNITY! Once we have reviewed your video submission, we will send you $20 USD by PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
